My Dad's 60th

When we asked my dad what he wanted to do to celebrate his 60th birthday, he replied "be with my family." So, that's just what we did! My sister & her husband came in town from Chicago and we did all the activities my dad wanted to do as a family. First on the agenda: breakfast and shopping at the Minneapolis Farmer's Market:

Next, we went to downtown Minneapolis to Brit's for dinner and lawn bowling. We had to wait for a while to get a spot for bowling, so we just had drinks & appetizers while we waited:

Bring on the lawn bowling (girls against boys, duh!):

After bowling we ate dinner. It was such a lovely warm August night to be sitting outside and enjoying the food and company:

On sunday, everyone came over to our house for lunch & birthday cake:

After lunch, the boys went and played a round of golf while the girls went out for coffee and chatted the afternoon away:

Happy birthday, Dad!

Festivities

This year all my college girlfriends are turning 30. In January, nine of us are celebrating this momentous year with a Caribbean cruise! Can't wait! In the mean time, we are celebrating each birthday as it comes. Last weekend we celebrated two of the girls birthday's (Karen & Jana) with a good -old -fashioned SLEEP OVER! We left the husbands behind in effort to embrace girl time, celebrating, laughing, and catching up. My BF Abbey was in town-so that made it extra special. Here are a few pictures from the evening:

Susie's Birthday!

We invited my inlaws and my parents over to celebrate Susie (my mother in law)'s birthday last weekend. It was great family time and I was so proud of myself for making my first two-tiered cake! It was bascially the Better Than Sex Cake receipe, but just tweaked a bit to make it more suitable for a double layered cake. Yummy!

Inching Closer to 30 (gulp!)

Yesterday was my 29th birthday. It was a hard one - knowing that 30 is now only 364 days away. Nonetheless, I had a wonderful time celebrating with my girlfriends (Mon) and husband (Tues). My girlfriends and I went to a cute cafe in uptown Minneapolis where we ate dessert and chatted the night away. Peter and I went to Chino Latino in uptown for dinner on my actual birthday. Chino's is known for... well, their somewhat inappropriate menu (i.e. the first item listed on the drink menu was called 'Crack Ho Mojito'. Understand now?). In my efforts to avoid the inappropriate titled items, I ordered a dessert that I thought sounded like an must-have calorie splurge on my birthday: Fried Snickers with Ice Cream. When this dessert landed on our table, we were both wide-eyes that my innocent dessert was in fact NOT SO INNOCENT. In an effort to keep my blog crude-free, I will not go into detail which male body part this dessert mimicked. You be the judge.

Downtown Bash

Two of our friends turned 30 this week (Hannah & Sarah) and celebrated in style all weekend long. They have been best friends their whole lives and happen to have birthdays 3 days apart. Saturday night we joined in on the festivities at AZIA in Minneapolis. AZIA is a modern, funky Asian restaurant with a twist. Seriously...they have some of the best sushi I've eaten to date. Hannah's brother owns the restaurant and hosted the event. He opened up the private section of the restaurant for all their friends to come and enjoy free drinks up to $14 each, free appetizers, karaoke, and dancing with a local DJ. It was a great night and a MUCH needed recess in this bitter cold and dreary winter we are having in MN. Needless to say - it was an ample evening for fun!
